MEDIUMS EXPERIENCED: "Homeschool Art with Ms. Shawnda" gives the student the opportunity to experience different mediums of art such as drawing with pencils and pastels, and painting with acrylics and watercolors. (See the art supply list here.) Mastering the mediums comes with experience, practice, and confidence. God is the Creator and He has created us in His image - that makes us artists. We were created to create. This can be experienced in many ways and in many forms. Since we were created by God, what we create should glorify Him. Scripture is God's handbook for His creation.

This will be an "open style" art studio in which the artist can select their medium and the reference within a God-filled outlook and perspective; (nothing dark, no Gothic, no Anime characters, no super heroes or Pokémon or the like. I reserve the right to not allow a reference. Some listed here are good, but unfortunately most aren't and if I allow one it opens up the rest. Most students are really good about this and it is a non-issue.)

If you, as a parent, want a specific medium and skill set to be worked on (i.e. Drawing, Charcoal, Pencil, Colored Pencil, India Ink, Watercolor, Acrylic, Oils, Clay, Marker, Oil Pastels, Chalk Pastels, etc.), please let me know. We will open in prayer and prayer requests and a Scripture reading is a mainstay. I will also have a running theme of a Bible story. This semester, we will begin with Esther.

THE EXHIBIT: The exhibit is at the end of the summer and is an opportunity for the artist to share and show the artwork that they have accomplished over the past 8 classes. Parents, grandparents, siblings, neighbors, and friends are all welcome. Refreshments are served by the participating moms. Pictures are matted and hung for display. It's an exciting event when an artist sees their work matted, hung and displayed for all to enjoy!

*** PARENT HELPERS: Because the Exhibition requires so much time and effort in displaying all of the artist's work, we ask that a parent from each family volunteer to help matte the student's work during one class session. We also appreciate everyone's help with the Exhibition itself. Your family will have an opportunity to sign up at a later date to help with set up, take down, and food prep. Thank you for understanding the need of sharing the load of responsibility! ;-)

Note from Ms. Shawnda... "I am here to encourage the artist. The Holy Spirit is the teacher and I am the encourager. Your child will grow in their ability as they find confidence and safety in their ability to create. Skills are learned by practice, but skill does not have the final say - encouragement, through Christ Jesus, does. Every student is expected to respect the other artists and encourage them. Criticism is not allowed - all of us are learning."
